Mid Review....Part One

So there comes a time in ever semester when you know there is still so much work to do but you need to show people your work. They are critiquing to help, even though it might not always seem that way, and they are to be working with you to achieve a better project.

To do this though there must be a project on the wall though...

Showing process work to prepare to tell the story.

Displaying the work that has led me to the discoveries represented.

25lbs of pure illegally studio made plaster

But don't worry about the reviews. Mid-Crit Part 2 only four days away so lets make changes and hope for the best!

Picking the Scheme...

Picking a new scheme from a few choices in the past and trying to come up with something that can be worked on for the rest of the semester is not as easy as it may seem.

With many different ideas the conclusion of came to be the combination of the ideas that can work.

Sinking into the ground and being a protective surrounding landscape for the existing building but not overwhelming the already monumental architecture.

Presenting the Fold, Sew and Bend

Through the process of folding paper and sewing paper and looking at paper as if it was a new and improved object the new ideas started to come along that brought the project to a new level.

And the back. Giving more information about the relationship of needle to paper. (Possibly to much)

Then there came the drawings with out the paper. Wire, and the not as easy at it looks art of bending this wire so you eventually have a drawing that also has depth. This wire does not always want to bend toward you the way you would like but if there was no resistance there would be no learning.

Yeah thats a section....

Developing the "Light" Expansion

After working with the sewing patterns to fold and create different seams a form was starting to emerge. This form is to be enclosing the 18,000 more boxes but will be a "light" form that feels as if touching the ground while still being stable enough to house many visitors.

Knowing that materials can change the feel of a building the original scheme is done to leave materiality to the imagination. The form can be done in concrete to match the existing building or a metal material to contradict the older building with a new one.

The spaces created are to have a variation of heights so that in some areas the visitor is feeling closed off and concealed while in others the area is open and lets a visitor see all that is around them.

The pieces are to feel to heavy, they are to look as if nothing is holding them up. Just like life, they are to feel unstable and just like death they are a mystery.
